Don’t Read this if you like wasting time…

Stop. Really, don’t read another word.  These words I’m about to write are only for people who are tired of being busy.  Tired of working endless hours and not making the money they deserve.  Done with doing work they aren’t good at and fed up with spending all day reacting to “emergencies” that get them no closer to their goals.

Last week I ran my first free workshop called “Schedule for Sustainable Success.”  Its part of a larger online course that launches this week.  (You can learn more about that here if you feel inclined…)  Schedules aren’t sexy.  But neither is winging your weeks, hoping something big will happen, and wasting your unique gifts that can be of service to others.

We covered a plethora of aspects around time and energy management: mindset, the four types of energy and how to work around them, prioritizing proficiency and passions, and having plans for distractions and interruptions.  Our mastermind group is going to dive into those in the course coming up, and I wanted to share with you the main points that the women in the room said was impactful to them.  And most of it was around creating your schedule in advance.

Step one is to plan out your week in advance.  (Not Monday morning when you freak out at all the work you have to do.)  Have you planned out your week yet?  Friday afternoons are my time to plan my next week when I’m not emotional about it.  Sunday evenings are also a great time to take a half hour and look through your week on a paper planner.  NOT A PHONE.  There is something about being able to see all your appointments and priorities in front of you.  I do schedule things into my phone, but I can only see one day at a time, and when I go to my monthly view, it only shows me dots.  Thanks, dots….Thanks for telling me something is happening…

And here is how you actually plan a week:

  1. Plan your top 3 priorities or goals into your planner first, and do so in time chunks.
  2. Schedule in other non-negotiables.
  3. Schedule around your energetic times.  Daniel Pink wrote a book called When.  And he says that it matters when you work and use your brain power.  My power hours are in the morning, after two cups of coffee.  I guard that time to the best of my ability and spend my best energetic time for my best work.  (The work I love to do that’s impact-producing and income-producing that I’m good at.)
  4. Schedule breaks into your day like they are appointments.
  5. Make sure the other areas of your life (physical, spiritual, family and friends, etc) are also planned into your week.

The last step to planning your week is to look at it all in front of you, and then visualize the best case scenario for your week.  This is a simple step that takes less than five minutes, but makes all the difference in the world.  And most people skip it.  What would be the best case scenario for you at work, in your relationship, physically, spiritually, and mentally if this week played out the way you want it to?  How many sales would you make?  How many people could you impact?  What kind of love life would you have?  How healthy would you eat?  Visualize and maybe even write out how your week will be.

I just shared a lot of information with you.  There are countless things I want to say about all of it, but that takes a while.  And my fingers are cramping so I’m going to end this blog soon..
